Richmond Valley Station Rehabilitation

Zion Contracting served as the General Contractor for the Station Finishes and State of Good Repair project at Richmond Valley Station (SIR) in Staten Island. Located in the Richmond Valley neighborhood at the intersection of Richmond Valley Road and Amboy Road, Richmond Valley Station is a key part of the Staten Island Railway’s main line. The station’s unique structure combines open-cut (below grade) construction at the north end and grade-level construction at the south end, requiring tailored construction techniques for the varied site conditions.

The scope of work was extensive, focusing on critical structural and aesthetic upgrades to enhance station functionality and longevity. Key tasks included the comprehensive rehabilitation of the platform and canopy, as well as the renovation of station stairs. The project also involved the safe and thorough removal of lead-based paint, followed by repainting of canopies and stairs to improve safety and visual appeal. Structural repairs included precision concrete restoration to address spalling and cracks, extensive steel repairs to ensure structural integrity, and the restoration of concrete beams beneath the platforms. All work was strategically executed during General Orders (G.O.s) to minimize disruptions to daily commuters, reflecting Zion Contracting’s commitment to both quality and operational continuity in active transit environments.
