Zion Contracting served as the General Contractor for the rehabilitation of Lynbrook Station, a key Long Island Rail Road commuter station situated at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Peninsula Boulevard in Lynbrook, New York. The primary purpose of this project was to restore and enhance the structural integrity of the station’s concrete viaduct, ensuring its longevity and safety for the daily influx of commuters.

The scope of work under this contract involved comprehensive repairs to the Lynbrook Station Viaduct, requiring specialized concrete restoration techniques. Key tasks included precision saw-cutting of concrete edges to create clean repair lines, removal of loose concrete and rust from exposed steel reinforcements, and the meticulous installation of custom forms and patching compounds to rebuild deteriorated sections. Concrete surfaces were expertly finished, and cracks were addressed through targeted repair methods, including the application of a high-performance epoxy bonding compound to reinforce and seal the structure against future damage.

In addition to structural repairs, the project required extensive coordination to manage existing infrastructure and public safety. Utilities, traffic lights, and signage were either protected or temporarily relocated to maintain operational continuity during construction. Bird-proofing measures were carefully removed and reinstalled to prevent environmental disruption. Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) were implemented at the street level, ensuring minimal disruption to vehicular and pedestrian flow. Furthermore, the project required obtaining necessary permits from NYSDOT and local municipalities, as well as meticulous coordination with LIRR to schedule work and street closures, minimizing impact on rail and local transit operations. Zion Contracting’s ability to manage these multi-faceted requirements and align complex logistics exemplified its expertise in high-stakes infrastructure rehabilitation.
