Zion Contracting served as the General Contractor for the comprehensive rehabilitation of Lynbrook Station, a prominent Long Island Rail Road commuter station located at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Peninsula Boulevard in Lynbrook, New York. The primary goal of the project was to significantly enhance the station’s physical appearance and functionality by executing a full-scale renovation of the platform and its associated structures, creating a more modern and welcoming environment for commuters.

The work under this contract entailed an extensive rehabilitation of platform-level waiting rooms and canopies, incorporating both structural and aesthetic upgrades. This complex scope included the installation and meticulous repair of windows and doors to restore functionality and energy efficiency. Exterior coatings were applied to protect surfaces against weather and wear, while extensive steel repairs and new roofing provided essential structural reinforcement. The platform was further enhanced with tiling, bird-proofing measures, and the installation of gutters and downspouts to ensure proper drainage and reduce maintenance needs.

Additional upgrades included the installation of storefront systems for enhanced visibility and accessibility, along with interior finishes and benches to improve passenger comfort. An HVAC system was installed to regulate climate within enclosed waiting areas, and platform lighting was upgraded to improve visibility and safety. Platform coatings were applied to enhance durability and slip resistance, while a translucent canopy roof was installed to provide shelter while maximizing natural light. The project also addressed environmental safety by carefully removing and encapsulating lead-based paint at the platform level. Zion Contracting’s thorough approach to these diverse tasks demonstrated a high level of coordination and technical precision, ultimately transforming Lynbrook Station into a revitalized and resilient transit hub.
