Midtown Tunnel Engineering Building Rehabilitation
Zion Contracting served as the General Contractor for the extensive rehabilitation of the TBTA Midtown Tunnel Engineering Building. The project’s primary objective was to restore and modernize the facility’s structural and operational functionality following significant damage from Superstorm Sandy. This complex scope of work included detailed site and building improvements at the Queens Midtown Tunnel facility. Essential structural repairs were carried out on the building’s exterior, addressing concrete spalls and cracks through specialized patching and reinforcement techniques. The project also involved the complete removal and replacement of aging wood flooring and a full roof replacement with storm-resistant materials to enhance resilience.
Further enhancements included the installation of a secure picket fence with an automated sliding gate for improved perimeter control. Mechanical upgrades involved a new HVAC system with high-efficiency units and advanced ductwork configurations for optimal climate control. Exterior improvements included new asphalt pavement engineered for durability and proper drainage, while the interior was fully renovated with new finishes. Additional work included restoring the brick façade with meticulous re-painting and sealing, as well as installing a custom cornice to restore the building’s architectural integrity. Zion Contracting’s commitment to quality and precision ensured that all work adhered to stringent safety and environmental standards, ultimately enhancing both the functionality and longevity of this critical infrastructure facility.
