Zion Contracting served as the General Contractor for the bridge painting project on the Guy Brewer Boulevard Bridge, located in the Jamaica area of Queens, NY. The primary objective of this project was to extend the lifespan of the bridge by implementing thorough protective measures and structural enhancements.

The work scope under this contract involved complex surface preparation processes, including sandblasting to safely remove hazardous lead-based paint. This required meticulous containment strategies to ensure environmental safety and compliance with strict regulations for lead abatement. Following surface preparation, a multi-layer painting system was applied to provide long-term corrosion protection and to enhance the bridge’s durability against environmental wear. The project also required extensive Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) on active streets beneath the bridge, ensuring minimal disruption to local traffic. Additionally, suspended platforms were installed to facilitate safe and efficient access to hard-to-reach areas of the bridge structure, enabling the team to complete the work with precision and thoroughness. Zion Contracting’s coordination of these multi-disciplinary tasks was crucial in executing this high-impact project with both safety and efficiency.
